There's something about Sandhagen fights that always get me really worked up. This ended up being a really profitable event for me. +8.97 Units 43% ROI. This includes a few last minute bets and a couple live bets that aren't tracked. (Pineda live bet +150 and a bet on Vera Finish only in a parlay. I also live bet Andrea Lee. I think that should have won but didn't.)
But I came away from this event feeling bad. The number one thing running through my head is "Chito, what happened?" This fight did not go anywhere near how I thought it would. How could I have read this so badly? The one time Chito doesn't show up is the one time I decide to pick against one of my favorite fighters Sandhagen. As a fan and as a person I'm happy Cory got the win. I saw him work in in his wrestling and grappling in an effective way and showcase his movement and striking. He was great. But as a better I was so frustrated. Chito did nothing. It was really confusing. I thought it very possible that Cory would outpoint Vera, but I thought Vera would make it exciting. ARG! It's so frustrating. But after all that which makes me really conflicted is that I win Sandhagen by Split decision. It should have been unanimous! I still made a profit on this fight even though I bet Vera to win a decision. What an anti-climactically unpredictable outcome that leaves me bummed out. I couldn't root for my favorite fighter to get the win. I rooted against him and then win a very undeserved Split decision bet! So even though I won the split decision it was a bad bet which makes me annoyed as well.
I don't know. Chito beat Sean O' Malley another of my favorite fighters because of a fluke leg injury even though Sean was outpointing him. So for a long time I tended to think Sean would have won that fight if not for that injury. Then Chito goes on this run of Ko's showing how dangerous he is once he gets started after a few rounds. So it had me doubting that maybe Sean wouldn't have won that fight if it had got extended. Now after this performance I don't know what to think. Was it something about Cory's movement and feinting that had Chito unable to put together any offense? He dealt with Dominic Cruz very well who moves around a lot and was beating Chito on points. But through the Cruz fight Chito was still being aggressive and fighting even though he was dealing with the movement. What do you take away from this fight? Maybe Cory's varied offense really didn't allow him to make reads and not being able to make reads he wasn't able to do anything. Maybe we were all reading into how good he is. Or maybe he just wasn't feeling good tonight. If he and Sean fight again, I'd pick Sean.
